Making it two wins in a row, Dan Booth (Hope Factory Racing) led home another bumper field in the third round of the SRAM Notts & Derby League at Shipley Park.

But after enjoying a winning margin of one and a half minutes the previous week, it was a close-run thing this time for 32-year-old Booth, from Market Bosworth, with the top five riders in the Heanor Clarion CC promotion covered by just eight seconds after five laps of racing.

Booth was three seconds clear at the line with Matt Barrett (Run and Ride) again settling for second place as he edged out Dieter Droger (Dirtwheels) in a tight sprint.

Gareth Whittall (Clay Cross RT) and Andrew Stuart (Nottingham Clarion) were also given the same time as each other in fourth and fifth places, eight seconds down on Booth, with last season’s overall champion Chris Metcalf (Charge Bikes) a close-up sixth at 13 seconds.

National mountain bike champion Nikki Harris (Team Telenet Fidea) started with the men and came home 15th overall as Diane Lee (Zepnat RT) took the honours in the women’s race, which got under way a minute later.

After two second places, 15-year-old Tom Weeds (Derby Mercury RC) stepped up to top spot in the youth race and reversed the previous week’s result with Arthur Green (Matlock CC).

Poppy Wildman (Nottingham Clarion) also moved up as she showed the boys the way home to win the Under-12 race.
