Ian Bibby wins the British Cyclo-Cross title in 2010 at the start of a successful year for the Preston rider.
“After the Tour of Britain,” explains the three-time National Cyclo-Cross champion, who turns 24 next month, “I really needed a rest and had about five weeks off. It was brilliant but after a while I knew I needed to get back in the saddle. However, the weather has been so bad that it has made it really tough to get into the swing of things so I rang a friend of mine and asked if I could come over for some training".
“It’s a bit weird being back in the saddle after such a long lay off but good at the same time. We’re doing about five hours a day. The weather really helps. If I can get a couple of goods week behind me over here, then I’ll be flying. We’re off to Lanzarote as well in December for the first team training camp, so come the New Year, I’ll have some good miles in my legs and be ready to defend my title in Derby.”
Success in cyclo-cross was followed by success on the road too. Here, Ian wins the Smithfield Nocturne.
Ian, who has previously ridden for Trek UK, has been one of the revelations of British cycling in 2010 after making the move from off-road to road. “I am pretty happy with the way things have gone. It was my first full-year on the road and I didn’t know what to expect. It was non-stop from March, especially during the Halfords Tour Series (where he won two races as well as the coveted HTC Smithfield Nocturne). I’ve been really pleased with my performances, especially during the Tour of Britain when I came second on Stage 3. I learnt a lot about myself in 2010 and I am determined to step up once again for 2011 and go for it - starting with the National Cyclo-Cross Championships.”
