Great Britain’s Nikki Harris won bronze in a closely fought elite women’s race at the 2014 UEC European Cyclo-cross Championships in Lorsch, Germany.

The 27-year-old finished  five seconds adrift of Belgian winner Sanne Cant over the 15.6-kilometre race with the Czech Republic’s Pavla Havlikova second.

Britain’s other representative, defending champion Helen Wyman, was fourth, seven seconds behind Harris.

“Close but no cigar! Put it all on the line for the jersey but on the day on the course the others were that bit better,” Harris tweeted after the race.

In the youth women’s race, Hannah Payton was 13th, one minute and 36 seconds back from winner Sabrina Stultiens of the Netherlands after 10 kilometres of racing.

“Super happy with 13th at today's European champs,” Payton, 20, tweeted.
