Jack Reading and Tahnee Seagrave were victorious in the elite races at the sixth and final round of the 2016 British Cycling MTB Downhill Series.
One Vision Global Racing’s Reading stopped the clock in 2:00.310 in Llangollen, Wales, just sixth-tenths of a second quicker than Madison Saracen Factory Team’s Matthew Simmonds.
Simmonds’ teammate Marc Beaumont completed the podium in 2:01.520.
For Simmonds, second place meant he took the series title.
Transition Factory Racing’s Tahnee Seagrave, fifth at the world championships in Val di Sole, won comfortably in 2:16.618, 28 seconds faster than Becci Skelton with Jessica Greaves in third.
Manon Carpenter, absent with a broken collarbone sustained in a crash at the world championships, had already secured the series win.
Junior races
Matt Walker of Madison Saracen Factory Team won a thrilling junior men’s contest, less than three-tenths of a second clear of Charlie Hatton, the top five separated by less than six seconds.
Hatton's second-place secured the overall series victory.
'My run went pretty well and I was happy with it, the track was hard to keep flow in some of the tight turns and it was easy to push on and make mistakes," Walker said.
"So I just tried to stay smooth and I came away with the win!"
Aston Tutt of pedalabikeaway triumphed in the junior women’s event in 2:33.392 to take the overall title. Rosy Monaghan was just under three seconds back from Tutt while Abbie Sloan was third.
"I'm really pleased to have won the overall as it was one of my goals for this season," Tutt said.
"I had a bit of a tough start to the year due to a couple of injuries so I was working hard to gain back confidence and to get to the level I wanted to be at. So just really happy to finish the season off with a good result!
