Club Management Training Information

British Cycling offers support for Go-Ride club volunteers in a number of ways because volunteers play a vital role in encouraging riders, coaches, commissaires, future Olympians, ride leaders and young volunteers to get involved in cycle sport. There are monetary benefits for qualified volunteers such as a free silver membership which not only includes the insurance required to coach but discounts of 10% at Halfords, £10 off at Chain Reaction Cycles and 40% on selected cycling magazine subscriptions. There are also opportunities for volunteers to undergo some extra training to assist them in developing the skills and knowledge to help young people have the best possible experience. Qualified volunteers of Go-Ride clubs can also access free British Cycling branded clothing.

Young Volunteers - Cycling Award for Young Volunteers

The Cycling Award for Young Volunteers is provided by British Cycling and combines an introductory workshop, which covers the fundamentals of cycle sport and volunteering roles, with practical placements with Go-Ride community clubs. Young volunteers can work towards a bronze (12 hours), silver (24 hours) or gold (36 hours) award with free clothing, certificates, memberships and even an invitation to the annual British Cycling Awards Dinner on offer for outstanding young volunteers.

Club Welfare Officer
- Safeguarding & Protecting Children

This workshop is provided by Sports Coach UK (www.sportscoachuk.org). The course aims to increase awareness of safeguarding and protecting children, helping volunteers to recognise signs of abuse and poor practice, and deal sensitively and effectively with issues that arise. It also prompts a review of club practices to ensure that sport provides a positive and enriching experience for children.

Coach

British Cycling's coach education pathway is established and provides opportunities for young people through the Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Cycling (16yrs and over) and opportunities for more experienced coaches to develop their skills in discipline specific courses in BMX, Road & Time Trial, Track and MTB as well as the Cyclo-Cross and Cycle Speedway courses currently in development.
