Workplace: British Transport Police

Tell us about your commuting rig:
I’ve got two; a Ventura Strada and a Carrera Virtuoso.

What’s your commute like?
It is an 18 mile round road cycle one horrendous hill going and one going back. I get to work in 35 minutes; only 15 more than in the car.

How many days a week do you commute by bike?
It depends on my shifts but usually four times per week.

What do you enjoy the most about bike commuting?
I challenge myself on the hills the best I have done the hill is 5 minutes for 1.5 miles on a 3.5% gradient.

What’s your least favourite thing about commuting by bike?
The hills in a cold morning or cold midnight finish after a long day.

What are your main reasons to commute by bike?
To save money, lose weight and keeping active. I do look forward to my rest days to get better rides in.

Have you got any funny or interesting bike commuting stories or experiences to share?
Getting knocked off my bike at 5:30am the other day when going to work. The look that the bloke gave me before speeding off was amazing. I was more worried about controlling my bike on the way to the tarmac to be bothered getting his registration. I didn’t want to damage the bike; luckily just one small scratch on the pedal.

What’s your killer commuting tip?
Just do it even if your motivation is low, it will make you feel better and motivated when you reach your destination.

Are you a British Cycling Member? If so how does your British Cycling membership support your bike commuting?
I am a Ride Member it gives me a bit more knowledge and making some great contacts.
