Velo Event Management present the 'King of the Mountains' Robert Millar Sportive, a chance to celebrate both the achievements of Scotland's most successful road rider and the challenging roads that the 1984 polka dot jersey winner trained on.

For those who didn't take part last year, event organisers would like to draw your attention to Scotland's most prestigious cycle sportive. This year's Robert Millar event is being organised by Velo Event Management Ltd and will again be run from Kirkintilloch, Glasgow, on Saturday 22nd June 2013. The Sportive should also attract many of the cyclists who will be travelling to Glasgow to watch the British Cycling Elite Men's & Women's Road Race Championships, being held the following day over the 2014 Commonwealth Games closed road circuit within the centre of Glasgow.

The event organisers are also delighted that proceeds from the Robert Millar Sportive will go to help the talent of tomorrow with funds being allocated to The Braveheart Fund. This will clearly help assist the development of Scotland's up and coming road and track cyclists.

The Robert Millar Sportive celebrates the legacy of Britain's greatest ever grand Tour rider. Famed for his climbing prowess, Glasgow born Robert (pictured right at the 1993 Tour de France - image - Eric Houdas) is still the only native English-speaking rider to win the coveted climbers jersey in Le Tour de France. He honed his skills training on the roads around Glasgow and 'The Robert Millar Sportive' celebrates the legacy of Robert Millar, who was and still is an inspiration to countless cyclists all over the world.

The Sportive route is designed to be in keeping with 'The King of the Mountains' whilst also featuring some of the most beautiful scenery in the Trossachs. The circuit will take you over some of the most famous climbs in central Scotland including the Tak Ma Doon, the Top of the World and the Crow Road.

The organisers urge you to take part in this year's Sportive, which should again prove to be a fantastic and memorable day's cycling.
