Pennine Events have added to their busy sporting and events schedule for 2012 by joining forces with Nova International. The experienced events company is providing consultancy and logistical support for the very first closed-road urban mass start event, the Daily Mirror Great Manchester Cycle.
Since being founded in 2002, Pennine Events have specialised in delivering high-quality mass-participation sporting events, such as the multi-award winning Pedal for Scotland, Liverpool-Chester-Liverpool Bike Ride, National Road Race Championships, Bradford City Run, Under and Over the Mersey, The Great Notts Bike Ride, as well as crowd management at the 2007 Tour de France.
The multi-distance Daily Mirror Great Manchester Cycle event on 4th June 2012 will be the first mass participation urban bike ride taking place on completely closed roads in an otherwise bustling city centre, including a stretch of Manchester’s busiest motorway – the iconic Mancunian way.
Starting and finishing at Eastlands, the home of Manchester City FC, the course takes in the districts of Manchester, Trafford and Salford, allowing cyclists the chance to see their city from a new perspective as they ride along normally strictly off limits to cyclists.
The event has three distance options, setting off in waves from 08:00 - giving you the option to Get Out and Pedal over 13 miles, Rule the Roads over 26 miles or Test Yourself over 52 miles.
Part of a ‘Great’ festival of sport in Manchester this summer, the Great Manchester Cycle will join a full programme that includes the UK’s most popular 10k, the Bupa Great Manchester Run and the British Gas Great Manchester Swim, all organised by Nova. Established in 1988 by former Olympic medallist Brendan Foster, Nova specialises in the development, design, organization and rights management of mass participation, televised sporting events.
