Tour of Worcestershire - Ride the Route sportive entries open

Posted: 13th August 2010 | Event: Sunday 12th September, Worcester Racecourse

Wheels in Wheels Events Ltd, organisers of six sportives in the UK and the Duva International in Majorca, are pleased to announce the latest edition of the Tour of Worcestershire - Ride the Route sportive.

Established in 2007 when the Tour of Britain stage started in Worcester, we have followed most of the original route but added our own bits to make it even tougher.

The route takes in all the classic climbs in the area including the Malvern climb followed by Ankerdine but then goes on to take in Stanhope Bank before Tenbury Wells and a short excursion into Shropshire. It then returns to tackle the "killer option" of Wynniattes Way - a 25% monster - but only if you want to.

After the feed point supplying energy drinks, bars, gels, fresh fruit and cake, there are five more listed climbs before returning to Worcester and a hot meal to replenish your energy stores.

The start and Finish is at Worcester racecourse in the centre of Worcester with an easy run in and out of the City and a cycle route finish to avoid the traffic.

A family ride around the City using cycle routes and paths is planned and will be organised by the local cycle Choose How You move scheme and more details will be available shortly.

There are 2 main sportive routes available, a full 92 mile route and a shorter 60 mile option. There is one feed stop on the 60 mile route and two on the longer 92 mile route, the same one visited twice.

Wheels and Wheels will operate their well proven signage plus extra warning signs when required. The "Killer Option" will be clearly marked for those wishing to attempt the climb, the difference in distance being less than one mile longer by not taking in the climb.

There will be a service motorbike, NEG outriders and a broom wagon should your legs fail you or for terminal mechanicals.

The event starts and finishes at Worcester Racecourse and extensive car parking is available. Registration is in the centre of the Racecourse so please follow the signs for HQ/Registration.

Signing on will be available on Saturday from 17.00 to 18.30 and again on Sunday morning from 07.00am to collect your chip timing and bike numbers for recognition so our photographer can capture your efforts en route.

The start will be from 08.30 to 09.00 for both rides and the start will be in small groups of 10-15, at minute intervals.
