COME and ride all or part of the course which was hailed as one of the best ever by British cycling superstars last year.
Nicole Cooke, Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish and Geraint Thomas all rode at the Abergavenny Festival of Cycling 2009 and now, on Saturday July 10 2010, it is YOUR chance to try it out.
Last year, in.front of crowds of 8,000 or more, the stars rode around the valleys in the National Road Race Championships.
There was not just one race but three - the Junior, Women's and Men's Nationals - all of whom gave enormous endorsements to the brilliant course laid out.
The 2010 Iron Mountain Sportif bike ride in Abergavenny is great fun and with the added bonus that you will also get free entry into the Abergavenny Carnival at Bailey Park on the day, with all the things happening there, which will otherwise cost £5.That free entry is for everyone who rides in the Sportif.
And also in the Sportif entry fee is food and refreshements at the feeding stations around the course and at the finish.
The courses are an easy 25 miles, 50 miles and, for the enthusiastic riders who want a real test, then they can ride the whole of the National Championships course used by the British men's elite last year.
And that includes a climb up The Tumble - the Iron Mountain itself - between Abergavenny and Blaenavon.
Additionally, on Friday night July 9, the outstanding Get Connected Welsh Open Town Centre Criterriums are taking place in Abergavenny which is part of the national Crits Series this year.
There domestic stars from across the country will be whizzing just feet away from you while you enjoy a drink, music and hi-velocity entertainment.
And, as with every year, the Town Centre Crits are FREE to watch. They start around 7pm and finish after dusk around 9pm. Every year, this has kick-started the Abergavenny Festival of Cycling with a bang and helped the Festival become one of the best sporting events in the town throughout the year.
There are childrens races and a Trader's Race on Friday night before the main boys blast around the narrow streets and circuit.
