Tour of the Cornfields 2010 Launched

The 'Cyclo-Cross Sportive' | Sunday 5th September, Cambridgeshire

The fourth edition of the Tour of the Cornfields will take place on Sunday 5th September in South Cambridgeshire. The route is designed to be ideal for cyclo-cross bikes but has been completed by riders on MTBs and even a couple of hardy riders on road bikes. The event is often used by those tuning their kit or legs for the Three Peaks Cyclo-Cross race.

This year's edition will head anti-clockwise, starting with the flowing Ashwell Street section. All the usual favourite sections will be included, the Brick Road, Porters Way, Cracknow Hill and Buck End. The route will return to the deserted medieval village of Clopton which can be a bumpy section but allows fantastic views from the ridge across the agricultural landscape.

The 55 - 60 mile route uses narrow lanes, farm tracks, by-ways and wide off-road paths with over 50% of it off-road. The terrain is flat or gently rolling with just a few short climbs. If the weather is dry it could be a fast ride for the fitter or a gentle meander and look at the rural scenery for the less committed. If the weather is wet it will be a totally different challenge! The route will be signposted and riders will be provided with written directions.

This year the HQ is at Bassingbourn Village College Leisure Centre so changing rooms and showers will be available.

The event is being run to raise funds for the EC-CA Youth Cyclo-Cross squad. More details about the activities of the squad can be found at www.easterncross.org.uk.
