Road: Perry sprints to South Cerney win

Opening his account for the season, Mark Perry (Dream Cycling) came out on top in a bunch sprint finish to the 55-mile South Cerney Road Race.

The 34-year-old, from Paulton, near Bristol, edged out second-placed Marc Flay (Dynamic Bicycles UK/RPC) and Glenn McMenamin ( with the judges unable to separate the rest and resorting to a study of the photo finish after 12 fast laps run off at an average speed in excess of 30mph.

A four-man group, including strongman Lee Davis (Node4 Giordana RT), broke away from the bunched field with two laps to go, but they were reeled in with little more than two miles to go – prompting a touch of wheels which saw a number of riders go down and, adding to an earlier crash, resulting in a hospital visit for Cotswold League overall leader Nic Tilling (Ride 24/7), who suffered suspected broken ribs, and the promoting club’s Steve Yates.
