Bicycle Ballet Hits Manchester

Posted: 2nd July 2010

Bicycle Ballet is looking for up to 80 volunteers to take part in a spectacular 30 minute dance performed entirely on bicycles. The event takes place on Sunday 25th July 2010 as part of Manchester’s three day international dance festival Urban Moves.

No dance experience necessary.

You will need to bring your bike.

All ages welcome although a level of cycling proficiency is required.

Under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult.

The show is a celebration of the highs and lows of cycling: the sheer joy of racing downhill, the wind behind you and the sun on your face, tempered by the gritty reality of urban cycling. The show is performed by two distinct groups: Up to 24 local participants in THE CHORUS perform the bulk of the show’s choreography – spectacular formation routines, intimate character stories, pastiches and pyrotechnic effects. Chorus participants will need to be competent cyclists and commit to approx 6 x 3 hour evening sessions and 3 days of rehearsals at weekends in July, plus the performance day on Sunday 25th July.

Up to 60 people in THE MASS, punctuate the show by sweeping across the performance space, en mass, in giant formations performing Mass actions – coughing, laughing etc – and making an impact. Mass participants will need to attend a 3 hour evening session on Saturday 24th July, plus the rehearsals and the performances on Sunday 25th July.
