Ben Baker races to victory in thrilling DMR Pump Track Challenge

Ben Baker stole the win right from under the nose of Bernard Kerr in dramatic battle in the final of the DMR Pump Track Challenge.

Ben Baker put together a super fast lap to stop the clock on 16.2

The riders turned in big numbers for the race at Bristol whilst a good crowd of spectators watched during the day with the very popular Lezyne exploder going off between the heats.

The format for racing was straight knock out and after a seeding run it was quarter and semi- finals and then the top five riders from the rippers, open, girls and pro made it to the finals.

The pro race was stacked with riders trying to win the £400 prize money, after the heats it came down the final five with Bernard Kerr setting the fastest times he was looking like a safe bet to repeat the win he took at Leamington Spa in April.

The format for the pros was a rolling start from a one lap warm up that lead straight into the timed lap, James Wilson was first go in the final with having beaten quite a few big names to get his place but it all went wrong crashing over the bars in the second corner.

Olly Wilkins is a master of the pump track with so much style, he went fastest with 19:3. Lewis Lacey was giving pump track racing ago after his recent win in the Cobble Wobble, he can pump and manual like the best of them but with a super fast 17:2 was looking good enough to win.

Next up was Ben Baker who put together a super fast lap and stopped the clock on 16.2, leaving Bernard Kerr who despite putting in a super smooth could only stop the clock on 16.5 leaving Baker with his first win.
