UCI Mountain Bike World Championships 2011
Cross Country Elite Men And Women
Lee Craigie and Liam Killeen endured on the headline day of cross country mountain bike racing.
Craigie's race started strongly, as she moved into the top thirty early on, but a huge crash on the first descent hampered her progress, before slipping back to 53rd after passing the line on lap one in 28th.
Killeen faced similar misfortune in a men's race effected by rain. Within the first third of the race, the already technical - but dry - course, turned into a minefield of slippery roots and rocks, forcing several retirements - one of which was Killeen's.
Large time gaps became the norm, while two punctures for Killeen meant he never cracked the top fifty positions.
Racing concludes tomorrow with the all downhill race categories.
