Go-Ride Magazine - Download

Since our last Go-Ride Magazine, it has been an incredible few months for British Cycling as we celebrate not one but two new World Champions with the achievements of Mark Cavendish and Lucy Garner.

The media headlines have been fantastic, but the real story is the progression of Cavendish the boy to Cavendish the ‘Manx Missile’ – a story which the cycling world knows very well.

Such a remarkable journey merely reinforces the work we do in Development as we believe talent can sometimes hide itself in unusual guises.

Our job, with your support as volunteers, and coaches in the network of Go-Ride clubs, is to help the talent shine through. Not all will become world champions, but if we can help young riders to become the best riders they can be and enjoy the sport for all of the positive values it represents, then we’ll be happy in our work.

Lucy Garner deserves equal praise for her efforts in becoming the 2011 Junior World Road Race Champion and I am sure both riders have long lists of people they will be wanting to thank for help and guidance along the way. Soon we are going to be asking you the same question.

Clubs and volunteers are the lifeblood of our sport and the British Cycling Annual Awards are our opportunity to thank all those who sacrifice so much of their free time for the good of cycling.

The event in 2012 will be devoted to all cycling champions and will bring together riders, volunteers, partners, sponsors, cycling ambassadors and key figures in the sport. Further information will be posted on the British Cycling website, so if you think somebody you know deserves an award; make sure you put them forward!

Kind Regards
The Development Team
