New Event: Kids' Minor Classic Cyclo-sportive

Sutton Cycling Club / De Ver Cycles are challenging young riders aged between 12 and 16 to ride the Kids' Minor Classic Cyclo-sportive - a unique event whereby unaccompanied adults are not allowed!

Date: Sunday 10th April 2011, from 9:00am
Start/Finish: Nonsuch Mansion Café, Nonsuch Park, Cheam, Surrey, SM3 8AL

Peter Fordham, Club Chairman and organiser, is hoping youngsters will enjoy a road ride in the company of an adult, and experience some of the pleasures adults receive from cycling. A route has been planned, which uses quiet country roads and lanes and is well signposted, being partly along the Surrey Cycleway.

The ‘Minor Classic' is about 47 miles and is an easier ride (than the cancelled ‘Classic'*) for those who may not be so strong or ambitious. As the event is designed for young people, adults will not be allowed to ride by themselves.

The entry forms have been designed to ensure parental consent and acceptance of responsibility by the ‘responsible adult.' There will be no event timing as there is intended to be a stop at the control point and we don't want the event to be a race. Riders may record their own times if they wish.

Entry fees In advance On the day Closing date 26th March
Youth (born after 1993) £8 £10
Adult £10 £12 ‘Minor Classic'

Entry/consent form can be downloaded from Sutton CC/De Ver Cycles website www.suttoncycling.co.uk
and sent to organiser Peter Fordham. Cheques payable to Sutton Cycling Club.

Additional information
• Carparks at Cheam Gate, Ewell Road or near Nonsuch Mansion.
• Limited changing facilities.
• No electronic mapping. Maps will be provided and route will be marked.
• Riders will receive a voucher which can be exchanged for refreshments at the Control Point.
• No timing.
• Charity: John Ibbotson Fund and one other to be determined.

* Peter had to cancel a planned longer sportive (the Classic) as he had not had enough advance entries. The cancelled ‘Classic' course would have been about 66 miles through Surrey, climbing and descending the North Downs and including two climbs (Box Hill and Coombe Bottom) that are likely to feature in the 2012 Road Race. A tough ride, but intended to be! The control point was to have been Tiffins Tea Rooms, Cranleigh. The Minor Classic will go ahead even if numbers are low.
