It is with deep sadness that British Cycling announces the death of 18 year old Raj Soni, who died in the morning of 2 August 2012 following a cycling accident.

Raj’s life support was switched off at Frenchay Hospital on Thursday following a crash whilst out on his bike on Monday evening at Dundry.

Raj was a member of Bristol Road Club and a second claim member of Bristol Cycling Development Squad, with whom Raj started his cycling at 11 years old.

Bristol Cycling Development Squad, who alerted British Cycling to the tragic news, are unsure as to the exact circumstances of Raj's accident and do not want to speculate about the cause, but what they do know is that Raj was out on a ride and crashed into a wall while descending from Dundry towards the A38. He was wearing a helmet.

The police are investigating and have appealed for witnesses, so if anyone has any information or saw Raj riding in the Dundry area on his black and white road bike on Monday around 5.20pm, please contact the Police on 101 and speak to PC 3528 Grigg in the Collision Investigation Unit.

For the full story and a moving tribute to Raj, go to Bristol Cycling Development Squad's club website.

British Cycling will continue to keep readers informed of any further developments and we send our deepest condolences to Raj's family and friends at this sad time.
