The British Cycle Speedway Final, to be held in Coventry, this summer has attracted major sponsorship and the event is set to be shown around the world.

The event races into Hearsall Common on Bank Holiday Monday 26 August and international company Schwalbe Tyres are backing the free to attend event for Coventry people to watch the thrills and spills of the sport, where cyclists compete with no brakes.

Although the Hearsall Common circuit is rated as one of the best race tracks in the sport, there are no spectator facilities at the site. In order to put on a showpiece final, and to project Coventry at its best to an international TV audience, the city club have obtained substantial sponsorship to provide all necessary spectator comforts.

On the day of the final, the track will be transformed with a mobile grandstand, toilets, catering, large LED video screen, VIP marquee and water supply all being hired-in for the event, which will be broadcast on Sky Sports and shown in 32 countries, reaching a global audience of 210 million homes.

Schwalbe Tyres, whose UK headquarters are based in Telford, Shropshire, are the main sponsors of the event, which will be organised by volunteers from the Coventry Cycle Speedway club. The company supply the UK and Ireland cycle industry with 500,000 tyres a year.

They are injecting a substantial figure to help with staging costs and further support is being provided by Cycle Coventry, Coventry City Council and Lutterworth company BMS Ltd.

Dave Taylor, marketing manager of Schwalbe Tyres, said: “We are delighted to be sponsors of the 2013 British Final at Coventry. Cycle Speedway is an exciting all-action spectator sport and we have been greatly impressed by the imaginative promotional plans of the Coventry club for the final”.

Coventry team manager Lee Marsh, whose children Josh and Sammi compete for the booming community club, commented: “We are proud to stage this major sporting event, which will present an immensely positive image of our city, both for the many attending and those around the world who will see it on TV.

“Without the kind sponsorship of Schwalbe Tyres, and the help and assistance of our other partners, we would not be able to present the British Final on the professional level we are planning”, concluded Marsh.
