Northern Region Combination - Hull v Astley & Tyldesley
Location: Hull Cycle Speedway, Livingston Road, Hessle, East Yorkshire
Event: 22 October 2012

Astley & Tyldesley travelled to Hull for the final Northern Combination League match of the season. Hull fielded some new riders amongst a very young team.

Heat 1 was drawn after Hull's Rob Stockton-Garner passed Roy Heslop on the finish line, but a 7-3 heat win to the Reece Pollitt / Daniel Burns pairing over Katie Greaves in the next race put A & T in front for a lead they never lost. Ron Makin took a heavy fall after tangling with Stockton-Garner at the first bend in heat 6, but bravely carried on for the rest of the match.

For A & T, Reece Pollitt raced to a fine 20 points maximum score, going off outside grids in four races. Roy Heslop was unbeaten after his first ride, with Ron Makin, Daniel Burns and Matt Snell all scoring well. For Hull, Rob Stockton-Garner rode well, losing only to Reece Pollitt in heat 13, with Josh Belliss and Katie Greaves pushing hard in each race.

Result

Hull 62: Rob Stockton-Garner 15, Josh Belliss 11, Katie Greaves 10, Sam Clark 8 (2), Jacob Wardrobe 6 (1), Jack Lister 5 (1), Harrison Davis 4, Edward Lister 3.

A & T 88: Reece Pollitt 20, Roy Heslop 18 (1), Ron Makin 16 (1), Dan Burns 14 (3), Matt Snell 13 (2), Dan Smith-Makin 7 (1).

Referee - Andy Moody.

S/SW Regional League - Newport v Horspath
Location: Newport CSC
Event: 21 October 2012

Newport secured a place for themselves in the Gold Cup final on November 4th when they outpointed rival contenders Horspath by a comfortable 24 point margin to finish in 3rd place in the Division 1 table. With their Elite top guns Mark Carmichael and Jack Harrold leading the scorechart, the Welsh side were always in the driving seat against the Oxford club who were without any of their top stars. However, Zac Payne confirmed what a talent he is with an impressive 20 point return for the Hammers and he received good backing from lively vet Mike Burgess.

Poole consolidated their runners up place in the table with a comfortable 99-79 victory over Swindon to round off their league programme for 2012. They will join Newport in the Gold Cup together with Exeter who were thankful for already wrapping up the league title after their surpise defeat at Southampton in a nailbiting last heat decider at Winchester Road yesterday. The Conference league, for U.16 riders, went down to the wire at Harbourside with Poole victors by 4 points.
