Leicester v Sandwell - British Team Championships - 6th June 2010
Report: Tim Jarvis
All credit to all the riders involved today, the Leicester track was underwater at lunchtime and wasn't a nice place to be!!
When the match got underway the racing was far better than the score line may suggest, Lee Smith and Scott Millward in particular were involved in some interesting races and deserved more for their efforts, however, no Sandwell rider could actually win a race.
Dan Pike raced to a twenty point maximum and was joined by Mark Newey who was unbeaten by an opponenet, but all the Leicester top six were amongst the points. On the other side of the coin the home side only had two last places, Josh Brooke in the first race and a fall from Kev Burns when challenging Dave Ball in heat thirteen. Down at reserve neither Matt Smith or David Ball, who both took tactical rides to replace U13 champion Matt Haddock, had their best days whilst the Leicester duo of the unbeaten Marchant and Jarvis looked at ease in all their three rides.
Result
Leicester 116 (D Pike 20, M Newey 19+1, A Peck 16+2, J Ashford 15+3, K Burns 15+2, C Marchant 11+1, C Jarvis 10, J Brooke 10)
Sandwell 64 (L Smith 14, S Millward 11, T Haddock 9, M Smith 8, P Clarke 7, J Palmer 6, D Ball 6, M Haddock 3)
The meeting was followed by a 10 a side match featuring riders from Bretford, Sandwell and Leicester, which, despite some heavy showers was well contested, full credit to Jamie Ball, Jim Palmer and Matt Haddock who all gave some of the youngsters taking part some interesting races.
