Tell us about your commuting rig: I have a Tifosi Audax XL frameset with carbon forks and a Shimano Tiagra triple speed group set. The wheels are hand build to suit my type of commute and weight by Harry Rowland in Kent. http://www.harryrowland.co.uk/ This bike is also kitted out with ESG mudguards and Tortec bag rack for my pannier bags. Lights are Cat Eye with the super new optiCube front light.

What’s your commute like? It is a reasonably a long route all on tarmac roads, mainly rural apart from the start in Heald Green and the end in Warrington. Typical Cheshire rolling countryside following the back roads around, Wilmslow, Mobberly, Knutsford (Tatton Park), and then joining the A50 across the A556, over the M6 and into Warrington through Stockton Heath. The overall distance is just a shade less than 25 miles each way and takes on average 90 min each what depending and weather and traffic.

How many days a week do you commute by bike? Five days a week with odd days off when I am away for business travel.

What do you enjoy the most about bike commuting? The physical satisfaction is perfect and keeps me content as a happy and positive person. I enjoy this time on the bike as my personal space, uninterrupted time to reflect and take in the great outdoors throughout the seasons.

"The physical satisfaction is perfect and keeps me content as a happy and positive person."

Mike Hobbs, bike commuter, Cheshire

What’s your least favourite thing about commuting by bike? Repairing a flat in the rain when it is dark and cold.

What are your main reasons to commute by bike? Enjoyment, keeping fit and healthy! Over the years of my career in the UK and Europe I have often spent many hours driving a car to meetings and commuting; now I have the luxury of leaving the car at home.

Have you got any funny or interesting bike commuting stories or experiences to share? Nothing exciting or funny, it is a new experience each day!

What’s your killer commuting tip? Keep cool in the traffic! Enjoy the ride and try not to think too much about how long it will take you to get home. Always carry a charged mobile phone for emergencies. Make sure you have a spare tube or two with you and plenty to drink.
