Plans for a massive 3000 place cycle park in Cambridge have taken a significant step forward, with the release of an artist’s impression video of the proposed new Cambridge ‘Cyclepoint’, which, when completed, will be the biggest facility of its kind in the UK.

The £2.5 million project, to be housed in the new 230 room Accord hotel in cycle-centric Cambridge’s city centre, has been developed to address the chaotic cycle parking situation around Cambridge’s railway station.

The Cyclepoint will be constructed by property development company Brookgate in collaboration with the Department for Transport, who are contributing £500,000 to the funding, part of a £15M nationwide government funding announced in 2012 to enhance cycle/rail links and station facilities.

The project was initially proposed back in April 2012 and has since gathered pace, with an artist’s impression video walk through of the cycle-park showing the scale of the facility, which will rival the scale and quality of cycle parking seen in northern European cities such as Amsterdam.

The new development will be the largest in the UK by some margin and will also house sales and maintenance facilities, making it a cycling one-stop shop in the heart of the UK’s most cycle-centric city.
