East Anglian BMX Summer Regional Race Series Round 3

The East Anglian Summer Regional race series continued last weekend with round 3 at Peterborough.
There were 174 riders from across the region signed up for the action and they were treated to a fast and dry raceway whilst the spectators were treated to some great action in glorious sunshine.
The racing commenced with the novices and in the 10 and under's class the first win of the day went to the Sam Pattinson from Milton Keynes who went unbeaten all day.
Jack Skinner from the home club rode to a consistent second place and club mate William Cracknell made some moves to finish third. The home club were in charge again in the 11 and overs as Hayden Slater also went unbeaten through the day. Shane Sevenoaks made his trip from Royston Rockets worthwhile in second and Luka O’Sullivan from Milton Keynes was third.
The 24” wheeled cruiser classes were up next and it was the Braintree Bullets duo of Chris Potter and Oli Cutmore who dominated the 17-29s class. Potter lead from the gate, but Cutmore tailed him throughout the first half of the race. As they manualled and hopped their way through the technical third straight, Cutmore made his move and took the lead. Down the last straight, the pair drag raced to the finish with Potter just overcoming Cutmore on the line by the width of a tyre.
Darren Putland made his return to racing following a serious injury in 2012 and took a fine third place. In the 40-44 class Spencer Cremin from Milton Keynes dominated every lap to take the win with a clean sheet. Cremin’s club mate Joe Mendes rode a fine race to finish second and Walpole Warriors Clive Mills continued his return to racing and battled hard to take third. The 30+ ladies class saw another clean sheet go to Milton Keynes Sarah Fuller with Tracy Clark from Braintree smoothing her way to second ahead of Royston’s Claire Pollard.
It was then on to the main events and the Expert classes started as usual with the micro mini’s in the 6 and under's class with Lucy Hutt from Runnymede leading out the boys, lap after lap to take a commanding first place from Norwich’s Jared Hill and Royston’s Jed Warwick. In the 7s the home club hero was Owen Putland who fought off all challengers for first.
Reuben Mills from Walpole went one better than his dad in the cruisers to finish second and Braintree’s Milan Machacek had a great race to finish third. Machacek’s club mate Henry Rowe had an unfortunate final race of the day as he challenged for the front on the first straight only to get knocked off the track.
Up to the 8s and another clean sheet went to Royston’s Josh Abbott who just had a bit more power than Braintree’s Adam Gilbert in second Joshua Crisp from Nottingham in third. Behind the podium spots there was a fine fight for fourth that was won on the last straight by Braintree’s Cameron Parrish just ahead of Joseph Harris.
Royston’s Elliot Bowyer was back to his winning ways as he took control of the 9s, winning all his moto's and final. In second place was Emily Hutt from Runneymede who closed the gap on Bowyer down the last straight and Braintree’s Seb Pantlin rode a great lap in third after a crash in the motos nearly saw him out of the running and his club mate Alex Doree secured fourth. Charlie Foster swept the board in the 10s for Peterborough with Braintree’s Freddie Jackson chasing him down hard in second ahead of Norwich’s Kyle Hill in third. In the 9-10 girls’ Peterborough’s Drew Raven used her home track advantage to control the pack for the win ahead of Nottingham’s Emma Crisp and Ella Foster rode up from the 7-8 girls for third.
The 11-12’s were combined to keep things super competitive and the A final was set to be a showdown between Runnymede’s Matt Hutt and Braintree’s Christian White. White got his customary great start and lead for the first straight, but the younger and more experienced Hutt was ready to pounce and as they hit the jumps he was away.
White gave chase but Hutt was too smooth and stole the show. Luke Mendes from Milton Keynes put in a valiant effort for third with Braintree’s Syd Allen returning from a broken foot to style his way to fourth. Mollie Foster was on fire in the girl’s class and took the win ahead of Morgan Dorrell from Norwich.
The 13-14s were also mixed together, but it was an 11 year old who stole the show as Braintree’s Josh Peters saw off a big challenge to take the win. The main challenge came from club mate Josh Legrove who had lead for the first third of the race until Peters got the bit between his teeth. Ollie Rowe also from the Bullets diced with Dan Blanche from Royston to take a well deserved third.
More mixed class action went down in the 15-16s with the younger end of the field taking the victory. Fifteen year old Josh Butson from Braintree used his power and technique to keep all comers at bay and won the A final ahead of Peterborough’s Adam Chambers and Aaron Dalleywater from Royston. The 15 and over girls was won by the home club’s Bethany Campbell as she lead out every lap in front of Milton Keynes Izzy Ferrada and Braintree’s Kelsey Dixon had some superb starts to finish third.
The Vet’s class was a great showdown as Lee Alexander from Royston showed his experience to take the win ahead of Milton Keynes Tim Phelps. Michael Ledlie from Peterborough was gifted third when club mate Paul Maidment missed a heat race and crashed in another.
The final class of the day was the 17+ A final and it was a fitting end to a great days racing. The pace from the gate was fierce as the whole pack diced for position. As they powered through the first corner it was the oldest man in the field, Alan Hill from Norwich who took a commanding lead and didn’t look back.
Behind Hill there was a trio of Braintree riders looking for second and Oli Cutmore was the man to take the spot as he made a last chance move on Taylor Andrews in the last corner to secure second with Andrews third and Chris Potter in fourth.
