Venue: Barking and Dagenham BMX Track

Event Details
The BMX regional schedule continued last Sunday with the first round of the annual East Anglia v The South Inter-Regional on the highly modified track of the Barking & Dagenham BMX Club. The track and surroundings have seen a lot of work over the winter months to get it ready for their first national event in two weeks time which made it an ideal time for rider across the country to gain more track knowledge and with the sun shining all day over 380 riders made the journey to take part in a full days action packed racing which was only marred by the blustery wind which made some of the track hard work, especially for the younger riders.
Royston had 14 riders taking part in the event with most of them eager to gain points towards their regional ranking and to qualify for the British Championships in September. In BMX racing all ages and abilities are catered for with the action starting with the novice classes where Matthew Fraser took 2nd place in the 9-11 yr B final whilst in the "expert" classes the racing got under way with the 6 & Under class where Joshua Abbott took the class B final win and the 7yr class was led home for the second round in succession by Elliott Bowyer. In the 9 year class Kele Newell took 8th place in the B final and in the 10 year class James King and Ted Dalleywater both made the main final with Ted taking 5th and James in 8th place after clipping a pedal on the track coming out of the second corner whilst trying to move into 2nd position. The 11 year class saw Miles Fisher taking to the new track with a clear win in the A final with team mate Daniel Blanche taking 7th on the line after getting a poor start and having to battle to catch up. An unusual poor start in the 12yr class A final saw Aaron Dalleywater also taking 7th in the A final and in the 15yr class Sam Manser took another 7th place, this time in the in the class B final. Representing the girls was Faye Godfrey who took 3rd in the Female 13-15 year class and in the largest class of the day, the 17-24 males, with nearly 50 competitors Andrew Brooker just failed to make the semi finals and in the Masters category (30+) Alex Shore-Nye took 2nd in the B final. The final classes of the day were the riders on the 24" wheeled "Cruisers" and the ladies 17-29 class saw Royston's only rider on the larger bikes, Helen Nicholl took 3rd place to end another good days competition for the club..
The next event on the race calendar is the third round of the East Anglia Regional hosted by the Ipswich BMX club on May 15th and the week after that the riders will be out in force at the national race at Barking & Dagenham BMX Club over the weekend of May 21/22nd.
Royston's own clubs nights have now started with the gates opening at 6.00pm. See more about the club and BMX racing in the region at www.roystonrockets.co.uk and the BMX East Regional site on www.bmxeast.com or ring 01763 260959 for more information on BMX racing.
