Emma Trott, Women’s Junior Endurance Coach for the Great Britain Cycling Team, has today announced that she will be stepping down from the role later this year after five years with the programme.

Having enjoyed a successful professional cycling career riding for some of the biggest teams in the world, Emma joined the Great Britian Cycling Team as a coach in 2018 and following a period of time as senior academy coach moved into the junior coaching role.

She has built the junior women’s endurance squad to one of the best in the world, developing riders to win world titles and regular podium spots and equipping them with the skills and ability to have full-time cycling careers. Her recent alumni includes four-time world champion Zoe Backstedt and rising star Cat Ferguson, who has recently been announced as one of the youngest riders ever to sign with a WorldTour team.

Emma has consistently advocated for young riders and played a vital role in their first experience of being on the GBCT programme. Through this, she has delivered an impressive string of results including winning world titles across three different disciplines, back-to-back world championship medals and winning the UCI Junior Women’s Nations Cup for the first time, and then for a second time.

Great Britain Cycling Team Performance Director, Stephen Park CBE said:

“During her time on the programme, Emma has openly shared her learnings from her time as a professional rider with her charges to support their growth and has shared her passion for the sport of cycling with the next generation.

“Emma’s philosophy of empowering riders as people first, coupled with a huge enjoyment for the sport of cycling and the opportunities it can give young girls, has been well-recognised within her coaching group and across the programme. It has led to some incredibly impressive results across the squad that will feed into the rest of the GBCT women's endurance pathway as we head to Paris 2024 and beyond.

“Emma is expected to continue coaching the squad for the remainder of the 2023 season and will of course work with us to ensure a seamless transition period as the new intake of junior riders join the programme.

“Emma’s leaves with our best wishes and thanks for everything she has achieved during her time on the GBCT programme. Thank you, Emma, for your hard work and dedication to the Great Britain Cycling Team.”

Emma Trott, Women’s Junior Endurance Coach, said:

“Reflecting on my five years with GBCT brings me happiness and gratitude for the opportunities and experiences I’ve gained while working for this great organisation. I am extremely grateful of the journey I’ve been on and the never-ending support I’ve had which has enabled me to grow as a person and coach.

“The journey across the years has been wild. From setting perhaps what seemed unrealistic targets of breaking world records to actually achieving it, to winning world titles in three different disciplines and winning the Nations Cup for the first time.

“However, perhaps the most pleasing is watching how these young women grow and flourish across their time with GBCT. Knowing we have more young riders out racing in Europe than ever before and a strong cohort of track riders, all of whom do their sport with a smile is a win for me.

“Leaving was never going to be easy as I’ve loved every second of my time with GBCT. But now seemed the right time for me to further my career, a new challenge and a new opportunity.”
