Rhys Britton and Grace Lister were crowned the national omnium champions after a fantastic weekend of racing at London’s Herne Hill Velodrome.
Men’s omnium
Rhys Britton (Saint Piran) took a sensational victory to be crowned the men’s omnium national champion, as world champion finalist Will Perrett (Embark Spirit BCC) came in second and Jacob Vaughan (TEKKERZ CC) finished in third.
Britton got off to a flying start in the men's omnium with Tom Ward (WardPerformanceUK) taking second and local rider Anthony Morris (VCL) securing a strong third place in the scratch race.
In the tempo race, Ward and Vaughan stayed away for over half the race, sharing the points between them. Vaughan secured the victory to move up into the top five as Ward went into the lead on the standings.
However, an early exit in the elimination race cost Ward valuable points, with Britton taking the win and the top spot.
The points race was well fought with multiple groups going clear, but consistent scoring from Britton and Perrett ensured they took gold and silver, with Vaughan rounding out the podium in bronze.
Women’s omnium
Grace Lister (DAS - Handsling Bikes) secured the women’s omnium national championship title after a brilliant battle with Danielle Khan (Saint Piran WRT). Lucy Nelson (Team Spectra Cannondale) finished a commendable third place.
In the women's race, Khan made a strong start securing victory in the opening scratch race, with Lister and Nelson in second and third, respectively.
A dominant performance from Lister in the tempo race saw her take 12 of the 13 possible sprints and add 40 points to her omnium total, with Khan taking the other sprint to ensure second place in the race. Katie-Anne Calton (JRC-Interflon RT) did well in the bunch sprint to finish in third place in the tempo.
The elimination race saw a repeat of the scratch, with Khan and Lister in the top two placings, with Miriam Jessett (Jadan Vive le Velo Glasdon) taking a strong third place.
In the points race, another powerful solo break from Lister saw her take six sprints in a row, overtaking Khan to secure the national title as Khan solidly defended her second place from Nelson.
