British Cycling is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of long-time Welwyn Wheelers volunteer and former British Cycling Board member Peter Waghorn MBE.

Peter was Club Chairman for Welwyn Wheelers for many decades and remained on the Committee until his passing.

Peter first took over the organisation of Welwyn Wheelers Friday Track League in 1968, and was a dedicated volunteer at the club in a wide variety of roles supporting events and club activity. He continued to be a familiar face at the club as a keen spectator through the 2022 season.

Peter was awarded an MBE in 2013 for services to sport in cycling and sailing, having also been involved with Grafham Water Sailing Club.

He will be greatly missed by the entire cycling community, and we send our heartfelt condolences to all who knew him.
