As part of its long-term ambition to support the cycling disciplines through nurturing the grassroots, British Cycling is now accepting applications for new members to a number of its commissions.

The commissions, which provide expert support and advice to the British Cycling Board and senior management, play a fundamental role in shaping the future of the sport and helping the organisation to meet the goals set out in its new strategy to 2024.

As well as having the opportunity to build new relationships, a role in any commission will provide members with sound experience in sport governance and support their long-term ambitions both within and outside sport.

The national governing body is seeking new members for its Mountain Bike Endurance, BMX Racing, BMX Freestyle, Cyclo-cross, Cycle Speedway and Commissaires Commissions, to improve consistency of numbers across the board, with recruitment for both a Chairperson and new member of the Road Commission also underway.

British Cycling’s Cycling Delivery Director, Danielle Every, said:

“Being on one of our discipline commissions is an excellent way to demonstrate your passion for the sport and have a real impact on the way it is run and shape its future. We want to welcome new members to help us develop innovative ways to inspire new riders, coaches, volunteers and event organisers to get involved in the sport in the years ahead and we welcome members from all communities and with a diverse range of experiences.”

The recruitment follows foundational work already undertaken over the past 12 months, through the publication of long-term plans to support the development and growth of each of the seven cycling disciplines, and the organisation’s ambition to improve representation on British Cycling commissions and boards as set out in its first strategy for equality, diversity and inclusion, Our Ride.

Commissions typically meet twice a year during the working week and members will occasionally be expected to contribute to debates and recommendations by email. The deadline for all applications is 23:59 on Sunday 14 November 2021.
