Day three of the 2021 National Youth and Junior Track Championships included two of the most exciting events in the velodrome; the Madison and Keirin.
Millie Couzens continued her winning streak with teammate Zoe Backstedt, taking a comfortable lead in the junior women’s Madison, winning with a lead of 36 points ahead of Madelaine Leach and Grace Lister in second with Eilidh Shaw and Morven Yeoman taking third.
However, things were much closer in the junior men’s Madison with winners Jack Brough and Joshua Giddings leading by just 9 points ahead of Josh Charlton and Joshua Tarling. Ross Birrell and Daniel Kain pipped Mattie Dodd and Oliver Mangham to the podium and bronze medal with equal points but crossing the finishing line first.
The junior men’s Keirin saw Harry Ledingham-Horn dominate proceedings once again, followed by Tom Sharples in second and Ed Lowe in third, all strong podium contenders from yesterday’s sprint final.
A single point made all the difference in the men’s under-16 points race with Tomos Pattinson narrowly missing out on gold to Calum Moir, with Joshua Jackson taking bronze.
Awen Roberts took the win in a fantastic youth women’s scratch race with a bunch sprint to the line in a race that really could have been won by anyone. Awen was joined on the podium by Carys Lloyd in second and Lowri Richards in third.
The junior women’s 500m time trial saw another British record broken with Iona Moir storming to victory in a record time of 0:34:834. Rhian Edmunds followed in second and Kirsty Johnson took third.
