This week the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, Glasgow plays host to the 2021 National Youth and Junior Track Championships, seeing the event return to Scotland for the first time in over a decade.

Yesterday’s focus was the Sprint Rounds; a chance for riders to open up the legs and illustrate their raw power and strategic ability.

Calum Moir took the victory in the men’s sprint closely followed by Matthew Brennan in second and Harry Radford in third. In the Youth Female Sprint, Anna Whitworth Hay took the win, followed by Lucy Glover in second and Carys Blowers in third.

In addition to the sprint events, the Junior Men took to the track for the 3000m Pursuit with the podium topped by Josh Charlton, with Joshua Giddings in second and Joshua Tarling in third.

Team Paul Milnes Cycles had a successful day taking three podium places, two of which were in the Junior 10km Scratch Race with teammates Millie Couzens taking first and Madelaine Leech taking second, with Grace Lister in third.

Despite the tough conditions in the heat, everything ran smoothly yesterday, with riders commenting their delight at no delays, a well-managed event and timely podiums. Massive thanks to all the event staff, volunteers and ambulance staff for ensuring a relaxed first day. Here’s looking forward to the rest of the week.
