British Cycling can today welcome Freewheel.co.uk, a cycling website designed support local bike shops, to its growing stable of partners.

Freewheel is a relatively new cycling retail website that offers cyclists top cycling brands such as Shimano, Lazer and Park Tool while supporting local bike shops across the country. Freewheel is made up of over 400 independent cycling retailers and money from every sale goes directly to them, so shoppers get the convenience of shopping online while supporting their chosen local bike shop.

The partnership will see Freewheel become Non-exclusive Official Supplier to the Great Britain Cycling Team and British Cycling, and British Cycling members will now enjoy a 10% discount on orders over £100 and support independent bike shops at the same time.

British Cycling’s Head of Commercial Partnerships Nick Hayes, praised Freewheel’s unique appeal, saying:

“As Freewheel is backed by a national network of independent bike shops, money from every sale goes to them. It means that you get the best of all worlds, because you can shop some of the top cycling brands with the convenience of ordering online.

“We’re very proud to be working with Freewheel to help even more cyclists support their local independent bike shops.”

Kellie Parsons, Marketing Director at Freewheel said: “We are really excited to partner with British Cycling and are keen to introduce the benefits of Freewheel to its members. British Cycling members are made up of knowledgeable cyclists that understand the significant and important role that local bike shops play within our sport. We are keen to show them not only that Freewheel is a great place to purchase your cycling kit but also that it is a great way to support those small businesses that keep the cycling industry moving.”

British Cycling members will not only enjoy an exclusive monthly Freewheel discount but can also expect to see Freewheel at various cycling events and exhibitions in the coming years.
