ŠKODA UK, Official Vehicle Partner to the Great Britain Cycling Team
ŠKODA began life on two wheels in 1895, when they produced bicycles before they started manufacturing cars. Cycling has remained important to ŠKODA and we continue to honour our heritage by supporting the world’s biggest cycling races and teams.
As Official Vehicle Partner to the Great Britain Cycling Team, ŠKODA UK will supply a 9-strong fleet of OCTAVIA Estate cars to support the team and riders to compete in major races throughout the UK and Europe, as well as during training camps.
The partnership is the latest milestone in ŠKODA’s longstanding commitment to cycling. In tandem with its headline sponsorship of key events in the cycling calendar, ŠKODA is championing gender equality in the professional tour series.
The Great Britain Cycling Team will be provided with a fleet of the fourth-generation OCTAVIA Estates, the most technologically advanced ŠKODA yet and one of the most cycle-friendly cars on the market.
The OCTAVIA’s feature Exit Warning technology is designed to help reduce the number of instances of ‘dooring’ – where a cyclist is hit by the door of a parked vehicle opened by a passenger or driver.
Visual and audio alerts are activated when car is stationary, preventing drivers and passengers from opening their doors into cyclists as they ride past. Other cycle-friendly technologies include Predictive Cycling Protection, Turn Assist and Collision Avoidance Assistance.
The Octavia also provides best-in-class boot capacity, when you fold down the rear seats, this provides 1,555-litres in the hatch and 1,700-litres in the estate, space which is all completely accessible as the floor is flat and free from any obstructions – perfect for fitting in a bike and all your cycling kit.
Tour of Britain, Women’s Tour and Tour Series
ŠKODA is the Official Car Partner of the UK’s biggest cycling races - Tour of Britain, Women’s Tour and Tour series. Each year, ŠKODA’s cars play vital roles supporting the teams and event organisers when the races take place across the nation.
Tour de France
ŠKODA has been the official main sponsor and vehicle partner of the Tour de France for the last 17 years. ŠKODA provide 250 vehicles to the organisers and race management each year including the SUV models KODIAQ and KAROQ, as well as the bestseller OCTAVIA and the top model SUPERB.
The new ŠKODA ENYAQ iV, all-electric SUV, was transformed into the Tour de France director’s car in 2020 and will take the lead of the world’s most famous cycle race once again this year.
ŠKODA DSI Cycling Academy
Now in its third year, the ŠKODA DSI Cycling Academy is a programme designed to provide ambitious female cyclists with a route to the elite level of the sport.
The university-style programme, in partnership with Britain’s most decorated Paralympian, Dame Sarah Storey, provides junior riders with a range of on and off-bike experiences and opportunities. A place within the ŠKODA DSI Cycling Academy will provide riders with opportunities to develop themselves as riders with a view to being selected for a professional race team at the end of the programme.
Applications are now open until 5th March for two new riders to join the current team. To find out more or apply for the ŠKODA DSI Cycling Academy, please visit: https://www.skoda.co.uk/discover/cycling-academy-sign-up
