Discover how together with our partner Cervélo we’ve engineered the next generation of track bike for the Great Britain Cycling Team.

Tony Purnell, head of technical development for the Great Britain Cycling Team said: “The moment we got together, we realised that each camp had real strengths. All we really needed to do was combine the strengths of the two.

"I didn’t come from cycling, I came from motor racing. Making bikes is actually pretty difficult, they are refined tricky pieces of equipment.”

The Cervélo T5GB has been collaboratively developed by the manufacturers and British Cycling, bringing together world-leading experts from both organisations.

Cervélo engineering director, Sean McDermott, said: “The challenge of developing the T5GB was significant. The uniquely short time frame and ambitious targets made this a challenging project, but now that the new bike is ready, it’s clear that it was well worth it.”

Jason Queally, an Olympic gold medallist, has been involved in the testing process. He said: “We had a look at it initially in the wind tunnel and straight from the go, they’d come up with a pretty special bike. There was trepidation going onto the track, but literally after the first few pedal revolutions I knew I was riding something really special. I’m quite optimistic that the Cervélo T5GB is the fastest bike in the world.”
