Victoria Pendleton, Brian Cookson and Liam Phillips were among the cycling stars at British Cycling’s annual awards dinner on Saturday, which celebrated 2013’s sporting successes and inducted a new tranche of British Cycling greats into the Hall of Fame.

The annual event took place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole on Saturday 8 February, with a trophy presentation for national champions and series winners taking place in the afternoon before television presenter Ned Boulting hosted the evening awards dinner, which began with Bob Howden addressing the event for the first time as British Cycling president.

The Brian Cossavella Trophy, for services to event organisation, went to Grand Prix of Wales organiser Bill Owen, before the David Saunders Memorial Trophy was awarded to Brian Cookson, following his election as UCI president.

The evening continued with a celebration of British cyclesport, with stars from across the cycling disciplines taking the stage; mountain biker Grant Ferguson reflected on his national title win, while Emily Kay, Dannielle Khan, Emily Nelson, Amy Hill and Hayley Jones looked back on a massive team performance at the junior track world championships.

Para-cyclists Helen Scott and Jon-Allan Butterworth looked back at the Newport International Para-cycling Cup, Hannah Payton spoke about her National Trophy cyclo-cross series win while a special recognition award went to Liam Phillips, in honour of his UCI BMX World Championships win in New Zealand.

The event reached its climax with the Hall of Fame, which saw Sir Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton, Rob Hayles, Roger Hammond, Nicole Cooke, Brian Cookson and Norman Sheil added to British Cycling’s list of luminaries, bringing a glittering celebration to a close.
