With regret we have to announce the death of John Partridge, a former British Cycling Federation Treasurer. After a short period of ill health, John died suddenly on 27 August 2011 aged 82.

Whilst John's career was mainly concerned with the insurance and retail clothing trades, his lifelong devotion was to the sport of Cycling and his last job prior to retirement was as the British Cycling Federation's Insurance Claims Officer from 1986 until 1994.

He was General Secretary of the Northampton/South East Midlands Division of the British Cycling Federation (and its predecessor the National Cyclists Union) from 1954 until 1969, when he relinquished the post to become a member of the Federation's Finance and Management Committee. He was Honorary Treasurer of the Federation from 1972 until retiring from his National Duties in 1980 when he was awarded the Federation's highest honour - the Gold Badge. He was an International Race Commissaire for the Union Cycliste Internationale from 1979 until 1995 officiating at major events including the 1984 World Championships in Barcelona

A Founder and Life Member of the Rockingham Forest Wheelers, John served the Club in many diverse official positions over the years which included periods as President, Chairman, Timekeeper, Secretary, Race Organiser of local and National Championships, Catering Operator, Dinner Organiserand Club Captain.

Since its inception he was an active member of the Northants Cycle Racing Association and promoted many events on its behalf. He was heavily involved withthe Northampton and District Time Trials Association where he served in many official positions including that of President and particularly in relation to the organisation of events. He served on the Committee of South East Midlands Districts of the Road Time Trials Council for many years.

The funeral will be held at Kettering Crematorium on Wednesday October 5at 3.45 p.m. and mourners are invited to attend afterwards at the Rockingham Forest Wheelers Clubrooms in Middleton, Corby, Northants.
