The new East Mids / East Anglia Cyclosportive will be held on Sunday 2nd September. It starts at either Rutland or Grafham Water and takes in 3 counties. Riders receive full mechanical support, timing and feed stations and have three routes to choose from.

Rutland Cycling is hosting this new sportive route open to all cyclists on Sunday 2nd September. Riders may start the Reservoir Cogs course at either Rutland or Grafham Water, making it the UK’s first dual-start sportive, and they have the choice of a 109, 70 or 58 mile route. The longer route, the ‘Big Cog’, takes in the beautiful countryside between the two Waters, passes through the market town of Oundle and runs on the quiet country lanes of the region. Registration is now open and riders can enter either online or at one of Rutland Cycling’s four stores.

Dan Murtagh, Whitwell store manager and road cycling enthusiast, explains that “we have spent a great deal of time planning a professional sportive that makes the most of the great cycling country on our doorstep. Riders will get free parking at our venues, a fully arrowed route with 3 feed stations and complete mechanical back-up and emergency support. The event is fully timed and we’ll be giving riders exclusive discounts in the build up to help with their training”.

David Middlemiss, Head of Marketing at Rutland Cycling and another committed cyclist, adds that “the routes take in some of the finest cycling lanes in the area, as well as circling both Grafham and Rutland Water. The full route of 109 miles can be joined at either Rutland or Grafham and involves over 4,400 ft of climbing – a nice challenge. The shorter option from Rutland is 58 miles and from Grafham cyclists can elect to do a 70 mile lap. All routes tackle some challenging climbs, well known to local cyclists but until now not linked by a sportive. In the build up to the event we will be offering training rides and advice. With all this and the variety of routes on offer it is a great sportive for those new to distance cycling or enthusiasts looking for a new challenge”.

To enter the Reservoir Cogs Sportive cyclists can register online or in-store at Rutland (Whitwell and Normanton) Grafham or Fineshade Wood. All the information and online registration is available at www.rutlandcycling.com/reservoircogs and more help is available on 01572 737 624.
