Guildford Cycle Challenge
Date: 27th September 2009
The 2009 Guildford Cycle Challenge comprises three rides, all starting and finishing at the Artington Park & Ride site on the Old Portsmouth Road.
The event is supported by Sport Guildford and by Guildford Borough Council. Other supporters and sponsors will provide goods and services to enhance your riding experience. Each route takes in some of the best scenery around Guildford, with plenty of interest to keep you going along the route. You can try to get a good time around the route, or take it easy. There are some nice viewing spots and even a good pub or two along the way. Route maps will be available on the day.
The Routes:
Epic: With a distance of 132km (82.5 miles) and more than 2,300 metres of climbing this route is a test even for the fittest cyclist! Start between 8:00am and 9:00am
Challenge: 85km (52miles) in distance, looping south of Guildford on fine country lanes, including a couple of the steep climbs in the Surrey hills. Start between 9:00am and 9:45am
Bike for All: This ride is 48km (28 miles) long and based on a route following country lanes to the south of Guildford leaving out the steep climbs of the Challenge. Start at 9:45am
To ease congestion, riders will be set off in small groups, and start times will be allocated to all riders when they register.
Each ride will be marshalled, with directional guidance, maps, and mobile support, with food and drinks provided along the way. The routes have been selected by some of Guildford's most experienced cyclists, many of whom will be riding - or supporting the rides - on the day.
Don't be put off by the distance. This is designed to be a challenge at each level, but can be achieved by any cyclist whether they are fitness fanatics or just occasional rides ... and because the rides are supported we will ensure that you get home safely.
