Ride to the Horns

Date: 14th June 2009

Welcome to the 2nd version of this classic ride the brain child of Formula 1 driver MARK WEBBER. Starting and finishing at The Stag at Mentmore the revised route now takes in some of the climbs used in last years Tour of Britain and Brill before returning to the classic Chiltern climbs of Whiteleaf, the Crong, Dunsmore and the Hale, which precede the Ivinghoe Beacon and the final climb up to Whipsnade and Dunstable Downs. A short run back to the last drag up to the finish where the Village Green festivities will await each rider, plus a welcoming Red Bull courtesy of Mark's F1 Team. The route has been extended to over 90 miles in 2009 to add to the challenge.

For those riders who wish to come and try a classic there is The Stag ride of 2 laps of a 25 mile route taking in some of the Horn's route and climbs. This offers a great taster to sportive rides. The Il Maschio family ride of 9miles on quite roads completes the day's rides.

Mark will be on hand to offer support and start the main ride, plus greeting riders as they return.
This unique event blends the best of sportive cycling with everyday village activities and supports the local Pace Charity again in 2009. The Mentmore village will again be putting on various activities and a jazz band to entertain everyone on the village green which hosts the start and finish.

Changing facilities are available plus free car parking just a short walk away and the Stag Restaurant will again have their famous bar-b-que and outside bar in full swing.

Mentmore is situated only 35 miles from central London and only 4miles from Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire.

The event is limited to 500 entries and envisage a quick take up, so please don't miss out on this very popular and tough sportive.

Entries are 25GBP which includes a 2GBP charity donation and a very generous sponsor's goody bag. Again there will be a photographer out and about to record your efforts and offer these pictures at the finish
