Autumn arrived with a bang just in time for the second running of the John “Tommo” Thompson Memorial Ride in the Peak District/Stafforshire Moorlands.

With the forecast for the weather to get progressively worse throughout the day riders were chomping at the bit to set off as early as possible in an attempt to avoid the worst of the weather.

The early risers were indeed rewarded, with the really bad weather holding off until just after midday. Good job too with riders on the long route climbing up to Flash the highest village in Britain - not exactly the place to be when the winds pick up and rains starts to fall.

With three route choices the Tommo provided a challenge for riders of all fitness levels; at the finish at Carsington Water there were plenty of tired but smiling faces but was that just because they were all greeted with tea and cake?!

Chris Meads was on hand to capture the riders’ challenge. Photos from the event will be made available to purchase here

Well done to all of the riders that braved the Autumnal conditions, we hope to see you again at future Dark & White events.

While Autumn may well have arrived it need not be the end to your sportive year. The Hidden Peak Sportive from Lady Manners School, Bakewell on Sunday October 20 has three routes, two National Trust locations to visit and one BIG Peak District to explore!
