Ride with Brad
Event: 11 August 2013
Location: TBC (Lancashire)

Following the success of the inaugural Ride with Brad event last year, Sir Bradley Wiggins, his wife Lady Catherine and organisers Pennine Events have announced that it will return this year on Sunday 11 August.

Established as part of launching the Bradley Wiggins Foundation, a registered charity, the event gives thousands the opportunity to ride with Britain’s first-ever winner of the yellow jersey and directly support his Foundation which aids young people in getting involved and developing their potential in sport.

“It was a great event last time, riding round this beautiful area where I train when at home and meeting so many riders and spectators. We want to keep the event growing and becoming the best sportive there is. So I urge everyone to put the 11th August in their diary and crack on with their training” says Sir Bradley.

"We want to keep the event growing and becoming the best sportive there is."

A central part of Ride with Brad is the sportive, which will offer a choice of three distances. For those wanting a challenge and the opportunity to Ride with Brad, but not yet ready to take on the 160km and 100km options last time, the organisers have added a 50km route, also around the beautiful countryside and villages in Pendle and the Ribble Valley.

One of the amazing features of last year’s event commented on by the participants was the community spirit. Locals in the villages and even on the hill tops were out in droves, not just waiting to spot Brad but also cheering on each individual rider. This spontaneous support cannot be engineered but Pennine Events are certainly going to be looking for ways in which they can build on this “welcome to Lancashire feel”.

"While the riders are out taking part in the sportive, on the 30, 60 or 100 mile routes, families, friends of riders and visitors will be treated to a fun day of sport celebration."

Lady Catherine is involved with Pennine Events in driving and developing the event. Cath says, “Brad and myself were very pleased with how well last year’s event went. We had a wonderful day taking part and seeing so many people out supporting the new Foundation. I am very excited with the plans for this year’s Ride with Brad and look forward to seeing even more take part.”

Mark Sandamas, Director of Pennine Events continued, “While the riders are out taking part in the sportive, on the 30, 60 or 100 mile routes, families, friends of riders and visitors will be treated to a fun day of sport celebration. Yes, of course there will be cycle activities and in keeping with the Foundation, the event will also feature a wide range of other sports activities including a fun run, rugby tasters and many other activities which we will announce at a later date. It was a fantastic honour to organise Ride with Brad and our team are looking at every element to ensure that the quality we achieved last year is surpassed.”

The event was voted one of the top five sportives in the country by readers of Cycling Plus and has been shortlisted for the Event of the Year prize at the National Outdoor Event Organisers annual awards.

Further details about the event will be released in the coming weeks and on the new website - www.ridewithbrad.com - which is now live. Online entry for cyclists will open in late June.
