Event: 23 June, 30 June

The next two sportive and mountain bike events on the Red Kite Event 2013 calendar are the Elan Valley Challenge on 23 June and the Shropshire Devil 2 on 30 June.

The Elan Valley Challenge will consist of both MTB and sportive events, with the MTB challenge including four route options: the 30k, 50k, 82k or for those who want to really prove their worth, the 130k route. Please be aware that the 130k ride, whilst sure to be an epic day out, will be seriously tough and if you are not fully fit enough to enjoy it, it is advised that you enter one of the shorter routes,  – there will be over 4100m of climbing to contend with! With gorgeous singletrack, long flowing downhills, steep and technical climbs and downhills and some bedrock, these routes promise to offer some challenging and exciting riding for all who take part.

Running alongside the MTB challenge at Elan Valley will be a sportive event. There will be three route options: a 45 mile, 73 mile or 87 mile choice. What the routes may lack in distance they most certainly make up for in climbing, with all three routes climbing well over 1000m and the longest route climbing an impressive 3500m.

The Elan Valley Challenge will be based in Rhayader and will definitely make some extremely picturesque but hugely challenging riding!

Only a week later, on Sunday 30 June, there will be another sportive event – the Shropshire Devil 2. There will be no mountain bike event running alongside, and riders who enter both the Elan Valley Sportive and the Shropshire Devil 2 Sportive can do so at the bargain price of just £45 for both! Once again, there will be a choice of three routes – 50 miles, 75 miles and 110 miles. This event will take in some of the superb countryside and gorgeous scenery of the Shropshire hills, with quiet roads making for excellent riding, before the route heads west into Wales, near Lake Bala and Vyrnwy.

Both the Elan Valley Challenge and Shropshire Devil 2 events promise to be huge successes and really exciting and challenging rides for all who participate! So whether you’re a road biker or an mountain biker, why not give one of them a go? Whether you fancy a real challenge and a long route with plenty of climbing, or a quiet day out cycling with some friends, there’s a route for everyone to choose from.
