Event: 13 July 2013
Location: Abergavenny, Wales
The Iron Mountain Sportif is back in 2013 for its seventh edition and with three routes from 19 to 100 miles and improved rider support, the event promises to be better than ever.
The sportive is part of the Abergavenny Festival of Cycling, a full weekend of racing and riding that includes the British Cycling Elite Circuit Series ‘Wales Open Criterium’ and the British Cycling Premier Calendar ‘Grand Prix of Wales’.
In response to rider feedback, event organisers have ramped up the level of rider support with improved feedstation facilities, including toilets and emergency bike spares. Behind the scenes there will be a fully manned emergency control room with two motor cycle medibike responders out on the course. At the start and finish M&D Cycles will be on hand to attend to any bike problems while out on the course riders will get the ‘pro’ treatment with Brother/Shimano neutral service cars in attendance.
Riders can choose from three route options from 19 to 100 miles, with the 100 main event event using the route of the 2009 National Road Race Championships, including the well-known climb of The Iron Mountain (AKA "The Tumble") which gives the event its name. Two shorter routes complete the package; a 50 mile sportive and a leisure ride of 19 miles ensure that a wide range of riders are catered for. Whichever route you choose, organisers guarantee a great day’s cycling on quiet roads with stunning Monmouthshire scenery.
