Ride for the 96 is an annual charity cyclo-sportive bike ride in memory of the 96 Liverpool FC fans who lost their lives in the Hillsborough stadium disaster on 15 April 1989.

The ride takes place on the outskirts of Liverpool and is insured through British Cycling. The ride is open to anyone to enter, and 100% of entrance fees and sponsorship monies will go to charity.

For the 2013 ride, 50% of the funds raised will go to Alder Hey Childrens hospital, 25% will go to Jamie Carragher's 23 Foundation to be allocated to youth projects and charitable causes on Merseyside, and 25% will go to the Steven Gerrard Foundation to be allocated to children’s charitable organisations and projects.

The 2013 Ride for the 96 will take place on Sunday 28th April 2013, starting and finishing at Sutton Leisure Centre in St. Helens. The route will head north into Lancashire around the top of Ormskirk and back South towards St. Helens, covering 96km. View the route map here.

The registration desk will be open from 8:30am with a start time of 10am.

How to Enter

Two different entry options are available. Standard entry is £32, whilst an optional £96 entry option is available for those that wish to contribute a little more towards the worthy charitable causes.

Every rider will receive a registration pack containing route information, a bottle of water and information from sponsors.

Anyone opting to pay the £96 will additionally receive:

  • Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher signed Ride for the 96 print postcard
  • Ride for the 96 Limited Edition T-Shirt (only available via this entry)
  • Sports Nutirition

Sponsoring Riders or Donating

A Virgin Money Giving Page has been set up so that riders can raise sponsorship, and any non-cyclists can donate.
