Event: 7 April 2013

Returning for its third year, the Captain Cook Challenge has a new event HQ for 2013 Middlesbrough Cycle Centre, all routes finish with a timed lap of the one kilometre cycle circuit.

After only a few miles all three routes are all on quiet, roads allowing riders to enjoy the spectacular scenery.  All three routes follow the same roads for the first 17 miles, and promise some spectacular views across the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.  Particular areas to look out for on the day are Commondale Moor, Esk Dale and Kildale Moor, the longest route also includes Egton High Moor, Rosedale, Blakey Ridge and Danby High Moor.  All routes will be fully way marked to guide riders on their way with feed stations strategically situated for all riders.

The ‘mega route’ at 94 miles this is longest route and is a true challenge anytime time of the year, as an early season sportive this really is big challenge with 2400 metres of climbing including one of the steepest climbs in the UK Rosedale Chimney Bank comes at 50 mile.  The Bank is a 1.47km ascent over this distance, you climb 175 meters with an average percentage of 11.9. This route has two feed stations and has got to be one of the toughest early season tests on the calendar. The Midi route is a step down in distance and climbing but offers some great views and its fare share of climbing.
