Event: 5 May 2013
Location: Goldings, Hertford
Report:

"The inaugural event is particularly poignant as it falls on what would have been Ellis Harriet Clark’s 21st Birthday. The ride is in memory of the bright, beautiful and charismatic girl who, despite a passionate battle against OsteoSarcoma, passed away a month after her 16th."

Ellis's 50 Miler event organisers

Located at the confluence of four river valleys, the picturesque medieval town of Hertford is famed for its history and attractions… but…we don’t care about all that. On 5 May this summer, Hertford will host the Ellis's 50 Miler and firmly place itself on the map as the location for one of the essential sportives of the summer cycling season.

Starting and finishing upon the stunning Golding’s Estate, entrants will take on 50 beautiful miles, meandering through the towns, villages and countryside of Hertfordshire including the infamous Clark Climb Challenge. Along the route, riders will come across an individually timed hill section to test their legs and sort the Grimpeurs from the Sprinters, earning you bragging rights at the finish line.

In addition to the featured climb, the ride includes individual timing, free fuel stops along the route and a travelling mechanic to solve any arising issues. Not to mention prizes awarded to top fundraisers, the oldest duo and the best dressed rider. With a start list already comprising members of all generations - this is an event for both the seasoned pro and the casual cyclist. No matter what your standard, the organisers guarantee every finisher will be welcomed home with a cheer, a beer and a BBQ to celebrate their achievements.

The inaugural event this summer is particularly poignant as it falls on what would have been Ellis Harriet Clark’s 21st Birthday. The ride is in memory of the bright, beautiful and charismatic girl who, despite a passionate battle against OsteoSarcoma, passed away a month after her 16th. Organised by the Foundation which bears her name, Ellis’ spirit and love for life will underpin the day with a fantastic atmosphere guaranteed.

Best of all, the riders won’t be the only winners with all proceeds and fundraising from the day going to two worthy charities – Teenage Cancer Trust and Skeletal Cancer Action Trust - ensuring the magnificent work and support these charities provide, so valued by Ellis and her family, can continue for other children facing a climb of their own against cancer.
