Event: 20 April 2013
Location: Clapham, Yorkshire Dales
Report: Rough Rider

The West Riding Classic 2013 will be held on 20 April and is now only nine weeks away!

So if you have been a bit slow to get back in the saddle this year, with the snow, rain and dark cold evenings keeping you indoors it might be time to start the training.

"Feedstation food can vary greatly from ride to ride, but the West Riding Classic played its ace at Horton – homemade Yorkshire Parkin, made, so I’m told, by Mrs McSherry and spicy pumpkin seed soup served with butter and crusty rolls, washed down with industrial quantities of tea and coffee,"

Eddie Allen, British Cycling on 2012 edition

There are three routes – Short, long and extra long – and the West Riding Classic Extra Long Route is rapidly becoming renowned as a seriously testing ride. It has 2223 meters of extremely challenging height gain in its 75 miles route around the beautiful Yorkshire dales and is certainly a hard and rewarding day in the saddle for committed cycle athletes.

The Long Route at 65 miles is much more accessible but still a serious ride with 1787m of climbing including Kingsdale, Dent Head, Ribblehead, Malham and Settle.

The Short Route is a beautiful entry level 33 mile circuit of Inglebrough climbing 922m out of Clapham and Ingleton taking in Chapel-le-Dale, Ribblehead and Horton.

But with all that hard work comes reward, probably the finest food station at any sportive in the UK where you will be provided with hearty home made soup, unlimited tea and coffee and freshly made Yorkshire Parkin. After you've finished the ride you can make your way to the New Inn Hotel to share tales of the days riding and where we have booked The Vinegar Strokes to play a cracking set of covers.
