St Crispin's Day Night Ride
Event: 27 October 2012
Location: London

The organisers of the St Crispin’s Day Night Ride are delighted with their 40 percent female entry. The ride starts at midnight on 27 October 2012 from the Thames Barrier and riders head west past the best night time sights of London.

Around dawn they arrive at England’s largest wine grower to collect a personalised bottle of wine from the new harvest. Whilst there, entrants get some excellent food and other entertainment before heading back to London collecting control stamps on their bottle and ride passport along the way. So far around 1,000 riders have registered.

Although the route doesn’t contain any huge climbs, at 100 miles long, it’s still a fair challenge although the organisers say 'adventure'.

Rob Howes said “We originally did the ride to collect more wine for ourselves but had such a good time we decided to launch it as an event. We expected the normal hardy crowd but have been delighted and slightly gobsmacked that we have so many ladies. It’s rapidly turning into a girl’s night out. We’ve added excellent food to make it an event to remember.”

“The route is designed to appeal to riders of vintage, retro and fixie bikes and that of course also means it has appeal to a moderately fit rider.” Howes continued “A lot of our entrants are riding a bike they love. We have a lady on a Pashley Princesses as well as a lot of other classic or vintage machines. Maybe it’s riding under moonlight or even the wine but we are delighted with the response.”
