Burgess Hill Rumble Cyclosportive

Event Date: Sunday the 29th August
Event Website: www.srs-events.cc

Now in its third year the Burgess Hill Rumble has proved very popular with participants. The Rumble is run by SRS Events who are raising funds for the Sussex Heart Charity based in Brighton. The Sussex Heart Charity promotes excellence in cardiac related funding for purchasing equipment and supporting education and research for resuscitation in the community. It also supports the cardiac rehabilitation service for those with heart disease.

The Event

With the HQ set in Burgess HILL Sussex, riders get to enjoy the wonderful cycling areas of the Weald and areas such as Ashdown Forest. Relatively quiet roads are used to keep riders away from too much traffic. Take a look at the videos links at the bottom of this page to get an idea of the natural beauty of the area the routes go over.

With four events to choose from in the Burgess Hill Rumble Cyclosportive, there is a ride in this
event for most abilities. The Four rides are:

The Classic, 92 Miles
The Challenge, 65 Miles
The Tour, @ 43 Miles
The Kermesse, 23 Miles

There can be no denying that the longest ride on the Burgess Hill Rumble, The Classic at 95 miles
is one of the hardest cyclosportives in the South East of England - not the longest but it sure is hilly.
Here is a list of some of this hills that will make all those that are allergic to gravity and its effects,
tremble in their Lycra:

 - Pillow Mounds Hill, Just a warm up
 - Kidds Hill know locally as "The Wall" for good reason, take it easy up this one.
 - Groombridge Hill Testing but the legs should have some energy still to get up this one.
 - Yorks Hill used in many club hill climbs is 16 %
 - Toys Hill A sit in the saddle longish climb with a good fast descent the other side, (be careful)
 - Cob Lane The infamous & devilish 20% killer climb, is short but steep, a bit of a cleat breaking hill
 - Ardingly Reservoir Hill The last of the major hills truly cruel on tired legs.

The profile of the event reveals the relentless nature of the hills:

Support

Feed Stations: As with all SRS Events the Feed stations are based at Village halls to give riders a warm dry place to rest and prepare for the next leg of their route. For those in a hurry there are plenty of free energy products from Science in Sport for riders making a quick stop before speeding off to achieve a fast time. For those that aren't in a hurry it is time to enjoy the plentiful cakes and flap jacks to wash down with a leisurely cup of tea or coffee. All feed stations will give plenty of opportunity to stock up on lost calories while out on the ride and having real toilets to use is also an advantage to having the Feed AND Timing stations at Village Halls, something that both Ladies and Gents can appreciate when taking part in a cyclosportives organised by SRS Events.

As with all the SRS Events, Medical assistance along with two private ambulances are on call along with mechanics to assist riders out on the routes. Broom wagons will be available for each course to make sure all entrants get back to the HQ should things not go quite to plan for individual riders.

After The Ride

Back from the ride all riders receive a certificate of their ride time, along with a goodie bag. Entrants can then enjoy watching the cycling documentaries that SRS show on their big screen while enjoying the free after ride meal that is available to all entrants.
