New sportive announced to raise funds for the official Armed Services Charity SSAFA
Wheels in Wheels Events Ltd, organisers of the Forest of Dean Classic sportive, are pleased to announce the Pain on the Plain, a new sportive to raise funds for the official Armed Services charity SSAFA Forces Help.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA) and the Combined Services will be using the event as part of their sportive series, so various members of the armed forces will be pitching their strengths against each other.
Starting and finishing in the garrison town of Tidworth, there will be two distances available, 90 and 60 miles, both of which will take in some of the best roads on Salisbury Plain as well as a few surprises. The event is unique in that exclusive military roads will be used alongside public roads to add variety and difficulty to the course.
The actual routes will be announced one week before the event as some roads are strictly off limits to the public and the organisers don't want anyone sneaking on to military land to recce the route. Rest assured they will be up to the challenging standards required by the services and those set by Wheels in Wheels Events who will have their usual well proven signage, full chip timing and feeds en route.
The long ride will start at 08.00 and the shorter route at 08.45, with a "special range meal" available to all riders at the finish. If these distances sound like too much, a much shorter family ride will also take place later in the morning
It is hoped that riders will take the opportunity to raise extra funds through sponsorship for the charity SSAFA Forces Help and sponsorship forms will be available on line soon.
